We've entered the new year of 2021 and it is time for a short overview of the past year. It was certainly an eventful one for our team at the Vozim Institute.

01/05/2021
Last year we organized quite a few projects, workshops, seminars and interviews at the Vozim Institute

2020 was marked by the Covid-19 pandemic, which certainly made it a very different year. But despite these strange conditions we did not give up, and we looked for new solutions and adjustments to find an (online) way to reach the youth. In 2020, we carried out 117 ‘I still drive – but I cannot walk’ workshops, 51 one of which were executed online. Despite the difficult circumstances, we found a way to reach 7138 young people, who participated in our workshops.

A MONTH WITH ZERO ROAD FATALITIES FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE THE INDEPENDENCE OF SLOVENIA

This past December was the first month in the history od Independent Slovenia with zero road traffic deaths. Together, we have also accomplished making 2020 the year with the least road fatalities in the history of Slovenia. Let’s keep up this good statistical result, congratulate each other, and above all else show the youth that it is possible to live without fatal traffic accidents as long as we have mutual respect on the road.

Our ambassadors can help you on this mission as they themselves have been injured in traffic accidents, and they can stress the meaning of road safety to the young people at the ‘I still drive – but I cannot walk’ workshops even more and show them how they can contribute to the positive statistics – no deaths on Slovene roads.

AND WHAT DO YOUNG PEOPLE HAVE TO SAY ABOUT ‘I STILL DRIVE – BUT I CANNOT WALK’ WORKSHOPS?

“The workshop was very interesting. I liked that the speaker managed to say and explain some things very clearly, but still seemed really really positive, despite everything he went through in his life. I am grateful to have heard everything he shared with us today, because most young people don’t understand the consequences that alcohol and inappropriate behaviour in traffic have, so THANK YOU!”

“The workshop was really well planned out. The problem of today’s youth, and people in general, is that most of us don’t know that this is a very serious matter, until we, or our loved ones, experience something similar. It could happen to me, you, him, them, anyone. No matter how careful and attentive you are, it can happen in a second. But if you follow traffic regulations and have your seatbelt properly fastened, there is a smaller likelihood of serious injuries. I liked the presentation, because until you hear the story from someone who’s had this happened to them, you don’t believe that speed and not fastening your seatbelt can do a full 180 on your lifestyle. The main issue is really with young people though, between the ages of 18 and 25, because they aren’t as experienced. The main culprit are the people around you who dare you to put your foot on the gas, because that’s the only way to be a real driver, a boss, even though this is obviously not true. To sum up: drive smartly, abide the rules, follow the regulations, don’t drive if you’re drunk or sleepy or tired, because that endangers you as well as others who are either in your car or on the same road.”
